Description

Poppy seeds are tiny, kidney-shaped oilseeds from the Papaver somniferum poppy plant, used whole or ground in cooking for thousands of years, especially in Central Europe and South Asia. They are also pressed to create poppyseed oil. While Papaver somniferum is also the source of opium for the pharmaceutical industry, many varieties have been specifically bred to be low in opium content, making the seeds safe for culinary use.
